Submit a General Question
A Lasting Power of Attorney, or LPA, is an essential legal document which helps protect your interests during your life. Many people consider it as important as a Will and see it as one of the final pieces in the process of planning and protecting their estate.
Ask yourself the following question: If I couldn’t manage my affairs, who would have legal permission to do so for me ?
A spouse is not necessarily going to have the Legal right to act on your behalf. Bank accounts, utility services, credit arrangements and even local authorities will not deal with someone else unless they have legal authority. This can only be granted through registering a Lasting Power of Attorney. Furthermore you need to sign a Power of Attorney for whoever you wish to have authority to make important health decisions on your behalf if you cannot make them yourself. This can be especially important if you have strong religious or ethical beliefs.
A Will sets out your wishes after you pass away. LPAs legally designate your wishes whilst you are still alive yet incapable of acting for yourself. Read the detailed section on LPA's in our Exclusive Estate Planning Brochure. Request Your Copy Today !
